Being Black is Dope! ✊🏾💛

Black excellence is not limited to a single month—it’s   12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days   strong. 💪🏾 From history makers to culture shapers, Black people have always been at the forefront of innovation, resilience, and greatness. Celebrating Blackness Beyond Black History Month While February is a time to honor our history, our impact is undeniable every day of the year.  Being Black is dope!  From music to literature, art to activism, we continue to shape the world in powerful ways. 🎶📚🎨 Teaching the Truth About Our History 📖  "Let’s teach the good and the bad of our history."  Too often, history books erase or downplay Black contributions and struggles. But our story is one of resistance, brilliance, and triumph. It’s important to acknowledge the painful past while uplifting the beauty of Black culture. Black and Proud, Always Pride in Black identity isn’t just about where we come from—it’s about where we’re going. 🚀 Whether it’s supporting Black-own...

The Text That Should’ve Stayed in My Drafts… 📱

Image
Why Did I Reach Out to Him? Hey awkwardly introverted readers, I need your opinion. I recently did something stupid, and now I’m left wondering why I even bothered. I’m hoping some of you can shed light on why we sometimes make these questionable decisions. So, here’s the story… Ok, so the backstory is we met years ago and used to talk and hang out, but tried to go beyond friendship, which obviously didn’t work out. We stopped talking last year and didn’t contact each other since then—well, until I reached out tonight like a clown 🤡. I sent a “Happy New Year” text to this guy who clearly didn’t try to contact me. Like, why? Why did I do it? Maybe I thought there was unfinished business or just wanted to see if he’d even respond. Spoiler alert: he did. And the first thing he says is, “Oh, hi, I got a new bed.” Like, seriously? 😑🛌 🚩 For context, that was his way of trying to set up sex, but no way. The last time we were together, it was not a good experience, so I’m definitely ...

Managing Hair and Skin Health with an Autoimmune Condition

Image
Taking care of hair and skin feels like a never-ending task, doesn’t it? When you add an autoimmune condition to the mix, it can feel downright impossible some days. It’s not something I talk about often (or at all, really), but navigating these challenges has been a personal journey full of trial and error. I’m no expert, just someone trying to figure it all out—awkwardly, of course. But if you’re on a similar path, maybe my experience can offer some solidarity or ideas. Hair Troubles: A Delicate Balancing Act I’ve always wanted thick, shiny hair that cooperates effortlessly. Instead, I’ve got strands that seem to shed at the slightest touch and a scalp that feels permanently irritated. Focusing on the Scalp I’ve learned that healthy hair starts at the scalp (even if mine doesn’t always agree). Using gentle shampoos with calming ingredients—like  zinc  or  ketoconazole —has made a difference. On good days, I’ll massage my scalp with a little  argan oil , but ...

A Chilly Day at FDU ❄️🧥

Image
Today started off  freezing —36°F with a wind so sharp it felt personal. 🥶 I bundled up like an eskimo and got to class way too early (so early even my professor hadn’t arrived). ⏰ With nothing else to do, I skimmed through my notes while waiting for things to start. 📚 The class was fine, but  group projects ? Still the bane of my existence. 😒 I handled my part, but the team? Not so much. Luckily, my professor reassured me that my grade wouldn’t suffer because of their slacking. Small wins! ✅ Afterward, I grabbed lunch to tide me over before meeting my professor again. 🍴 But can we talk about FDU’s overpriced, mediocre campus food? 💸 Eleven bucks for something so bland it felt like daylight robbery. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Once I wrapped up with my professor, I uploaded my work and hit the library for some study time. 📖 Even indoors, the chill seemed to linger, making it hard to focus. 🥶 (Pro tip: bring extra layers—it’s not just cold outside!) I realized I still have my art class assi...

November 1st Vibes: Geese, Coffee, and Crisp Fall Weather

Image
November 1st Vibes: Geese, Coffee, and Crisp Fall Weather This morning started off with rain, but it finally cleared up, leaving behind perfect, crisp fall air. The kind of weather that just makes you want to breathe deep, grab a cozy sweater, and wander around. I started my day in writing lab, where I scored a 90 on my essay! 🎉 It’s not perfect yet—a few revisions to go—but I’ll take the win. Today’s also a special day—it’s my Aunt Dee Dee’s birthday. Happy Heavenly Birthday, Aunt Dee Dee. 🎂 Thinking of you brings back so many memories, and I just want to celebrate you. You’re missed, but you’re here with us in spirit. After class, I headed to the Student Union for breakfast. The bacon was on point—crispy and delicious—and honestly, I think I could eat it every day. 🥓 I could use a quick ride to IHOP, though—that would be the dream. For now, I’ll settle for on-campus breakfast, but there’s nothing quite like a full IHOP stack when you really want to treat yourself. 🥞 Lost in...

A Day of Sunshine, Wins, and a Little Sleepiness

Image
October 22, 2024 So, of course, another late post because I’ve been busy with more midterms (ugh), but does anyone actually read this blog? 😂 Today has been one of those rare perfect days. Even though it’s October, the weather felt like a warm embrace—pure bliss with sunshine and no chill in the air. To my surprise, my professor canceled class at the last minute due to illness. While I feel for them 🤢, it gave me the unexpected gift of extra time to catch up on homework and soak in the beautiful weather. As if the day couldn’t get better, my mom had an appointment, which meant no bus ride for me today! 🙌🏾 A small victory, but one that always feels significant. Later, I had a meeting with my EOF counselor. Hearing her praise for my hard work, especially in math (ugh, math), truly made my day. I’m still struggling with it, but I’m aiming for at least a C so I can finally be DONE with math forever! Now, I’m sitting in the doctor’s office with my mom, and I can feel the early wake-up c...
