Rest in Power, Angie Stone

Image
I just learned that the amazing singer Angie Stone has passed away due to a car accident, and my heart is heavy. This woman was truly one of my favorite singers—her voice, her music, her presence in the industry were all unmatched. She was a legend in R&B and neo-soul, and her songs carried so much soul and depth. Angie began her career in the late 1970s with the pioneering female hip-hop group The Sequence, known for their hit "Funk You Up." She later achieved solo success with albums like "Black Diamond" and "Mahogany Soul," solidifying her influence in the neo-soul genre. Angie gave us timeless hits like  Wish I Didn’t Miss You ,  Brotha ,  No More Rain (In This Cloud) , and so many more. Her music had a way of touching the soul, making you feel something deep, whether it was love, heartbreak, or empowerment. She paved the way for so many artists and left a mark that will never be erased. This is such a huge loss for the music world, but her legacy ...

Black history isn’t just a month—it’s every single day. Our culture, achievements, and impact aren’t limited to February, and this image speaks loud and clear. We honor our past, celebrate our present, and shape our future every day of the year. From the pioneers who paved the way to the trailblazers making history now, Black excellence is ongoing. πŸ’‘πŸ”₯ Our contributions, struggles, victories, and voices deserve recognition beyond the calendar. So, let’s keep learning, uplifting, and amplifying Black history—not just for one month, but always. πŸ–€❤️πŸ’š I found this online and had to share!

Black History: 365 Days, No Permission Needed ✊🏾

Image
The Black Panther era was a time of unapologetic Black power, resistance, and self-determination. It wasn’t just about the fight against oppression; it was about building a future where Black people controlled their own narratives, resources, and destinies. And guess what? That fight never stopped. This image speaks to that same energy—Black history isn’t a month, a moment, or a lesson in a textbook. It’s  alive . It’s woven into the very foundation of everything we see, touch, and experience. And most importantly, it doesn’t require permission to exist. The Black Panther Party understood this well. They weren’t waiting for approval to demand justice, feed the people, or protect their communities. They took action. They built schools, provided healthcare, and challenged a system designed to keep Black people oppressed. They were feared because they were  organized . They were powerful because they  knew their worth . Fast forward to today, and that same spirit  shoul...

πŸ”₯ Our Blackness is Limitless ✊🏾

Image
Let me start by saying this loud and clear:  I’m Black, y’all! I’m Blackity Black, Black, Black! ✊🏾  And if that makes anyone uncomfortable, that’s their problem, not mine. The image above isn’t just a dope piece of art—it’s a declaration, a reminder, and a whole mood.  "Our Blackness is Limitless."  Read that again. Sit with it. Let it sink in. Because the truth is,  Blackness is infinite.  It cannot be boxed in, watered down, or neatly categorized for anyone’s comfort. It’s loud when it wants to be, quiet when it needs to be, and bold in every damn space it occupies. It’s in the way we create, the way we move, the way we thrive despite every obstacle thrown our way.  Blackness is culture, rhythm, innovation, and power —all wrapped up in something that the world tries (and fails) to imitate. This isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about  identity.  Blackness doesn’t have a singular look, sound, or personality. It’s introverted, extroverted, ...

They Not Like Us – The Anthem of Black Power We are not the same. Kendrick Lamar said it loud and clear:  They not like us.  And if you feel this deep in your soul, you already know what it is. This ain’t just a diss track. This is a declaration. A battle cry. A reminder. For centuries, Black people have moved different, thought different, created different. We set the trends, we shift the culture, we  are  the culture. Our music, our art, our power—imitated but never duplicated. They try to walk like us, talk like us, BE us… but they not like us. This is Black excellence. Black resilience. Black history in the making. From the streets to the boardrooms, from the studio to the protest lines, from the past to the future— we stand on the shoulders of giants.  We are the revolution they fear, the brilliance they envy, the greatness they can’t reach. And let’s be clear: This ain’t about hate. It’s about  pride.  It’s about knowing who we are and nev...

Tuskegee Airmen: The Sky Was Never the Limit ✈️πŸ”₯πŸ‘¨πŸΎπŸ§”πŸΎ‍♂️πŸ‘΄πŸΎ

Image
The  Tuskegee Airmen  were a groundbreaking group of African American pilots who served in  World War II  as part of the U.S. Army Air Corps. They became the first Black military aviators in U.S. history and played a vital role in the war, breaking racial barriers while proving their exceptional skill and bravery. Key Facts About the Tuskegee Airmen: ✈️  Formed in 1941, active in 1942  – They trained at  Tuskegee Army Air Field  in Alabama. ✈️  Highly skilled pilots  – Flew  more than 15,000 sorties  and destroyed over  260 enemy aircraft . ✈️  Escort missions  – Protected bombers with such precision that they earned the nickname  "Red Tails"  for their aircraft markings. ✈️  Medal recipients  – Earned  Distinguished Flying Crosses, Bronze Stars, and Congressional Gold Medals . ✈️  Impact on desegregation  – Their success helped pave the way for the  integration of the U.S....

The Illusion of Equal Opportunity

Image
At first glance, the race in this image seems fair—both runners have the same distance to the finish line. But look closer, and the truth becomes clear: while one path is smooth, the other is filled with obstacles, dangers, and an unfair disadvantage from the start. This is a powerful representation of  inequality ✊🏾 . Whether it’s race, gender, class, or other  systemic barriers 🚧 , not everyone starts on equal footing, even if society insists they do. Some are born with  privilege 🎭 , running on a clear track, while others must navigate hurdles, pitfalls, and burdens that make success infinitely harder. Yet, how often do we hear:  “Just work harder,” “We all have the same 24 hours,”  or  “If I can do it, so can you” ? Statements like these ignore the  racial disparities ⚖️  that exist and dismiss the reality that  hard work πŸ’ͺ🏾  alone isn’t always enough. As a  Black woman πŸ–€ —and for  Black people in general —we have to ...

A Heartfelt Thank You (And Off to Homework I Go…)

Image
Dear Amazing Readers, First off, I just want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for being part of this incredible journey during Black History Month! Your support means the world to me, and it’s been such a joy sharing the stories of these incredible individuals who’ve made such a profound impact on history. From artists to activists, innovators to trailblazers, we've celebrated some of the best and brightest. But now, duty calls! It’s time for homework (ugh 😩), but don’t worry—I’ll be back tomorrow, ready to share more about the amazing figures who’ve shaped Black history. The work never stops, and neither does the celebration of these phenomenal individuals. And I can’t lie—I’m also looking forward to Kendrick Lamar at the halftime show tonight! I’m sure there will be some entertaining reactions from people who can’t handle "Lift Every Voice and Sing" being on TV or Kendrick’s performance. But hey, let them be mad while we enjoy the greatness! πŸ˜‚ Thanks again...

Black History: 365 Days, No Permission Needed ✊🏾

To my fellow readers—both book lovers and those just passing through   Awkwardly Introverted —I hope y’all are enjoying this celebration of   Black power, Black excellence, and Black men and women doing the damn thing.   ✊🏾✨ As a   proud Black woman , I know one thing for sure:   no one can tell us anything.   We   are   Black history.   365 days a year. Every. Single. Day.   πŸ–€πŸ’ͺ🏾 And to the  racist white folks  mad about it— sit y’all asses down somewhere . πŸͺ‘ We’re not going anywhere. In fact,  we’re growing, thriving, and taking up space.  Y’all keep trying  (and failing)  to erase us, but history proves we don’t just survive—we  rise.  πŸŒπŸ”₯ That  orange, Cheeto-dusted buffoon  πŸ§€ with his  crusty, chapped mouth?  He couldn’t stop us before, and he damn sure  can’t now.  We’ve faced  far worse , and yet, here we are— stronger, smarter, and more unstoppable t...
