From Berlin to Prague to Warsaw: Adventures of an Introverted Traveler ✈️๐๐งณ
Travel has always felt like stepping into a new chapter of life, filled with unknowns and possibilities. But this time, the story is different—2025 marks my first overseas adventure without my family. Sure, I’ve explored plenty on my own, but there’s something uniquely exciting (and slightly nerve-wracking!) about crossing borders and cultures without the familiar safety net of loved ones.
The Study Abroad Journey ๐๐️
This isn’t just a vacation; it’s an opportunity to learn about one of the most profound and painful chapters in history: the Holocaust. Through my college’s study-abroad program, I’ll visit historic sites across Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic. It’s a chance to confront history, honor those who endured unimaginable hardships, and gain a deeper understanding of resilience and humanity.
Berlin, Germany ๐ฉ๐ช
Berlin’s mix of historical significance and vibrant culture makes it a city like no other. I’m particularly looking forward to:
- The Berlin Wall: Visiting the East Side Gallery ๐จ and Berlin Wall Memorial ๐️ will offer contrasting perspectives on division and unity.
- Topography of Terror: This museum, located on the former Gestapo and SS headquarters site, provides an unflinching look at Nazi Germany’s oppressive regime.
Of course, I’ll also immerse myself in Berlin’s food scene. I’m ready to tackle bratwurst ๐ญ, schnitzel ๐, and maybe even a pretzel the size of my head ๐ฅจ!
Prague, Czech Republic ๐จ๐ฟ
Prague feels like a city plucked straight out of a fairy tale, with its Gothic architecture and cobblestone streets. Some highlights I can’t wait to explore:
- The Jewish Quarter (Josefov): Learning about Prague’s Jewish history through its synagogues and historic sites like the Old Jewish Cemetery ✡️ will be deeply moving.
- Prague Castle: Standing tall over the city, this iconic castle complex offers breathtaking views and centuries of history.
And let’s not forget the food—chimney cakes ๐ฅฎ and hearty Czech dishes are already calling my name.
Warsaw, Poland ๐ต๐ฑ
Warsaw is a city of resilience, having rebuilt itself from near-total destruction during World War II. While there, I plan to visit:
- Warsaw Ghetto Memorial: Paying tribute to those who lived and perished in unimaginable circumstances during the Holocaust.
- Old Town: A stunning area painstakingly restored after the war, blending historical charm with modern energy.
Pierogi ๐ฅ and comforting soups ๐ต will definitely fuel my exploration. I’m also curious to try Polish desserts like paczki (doughnuts) ๐ฉ.
The Introvert Abroad: A Balancing Act
As much as I enjoy the energy of traveling with a group, I know my introverted self will crave quiet moments. Whether it’s finding a cozy cafรฉ to people-watch ☕, journaling about the day’s experiences ๐, or simply soaking in the sights on my own, I’ll make space to recharge and reflect.
This trip will also push me out of my comfort zone—meeting new people, navigating unfamiliar places, and embracing spontaneity. It’s a challenge I’m ready to face.
Reflection: From Greece to Now ๐๐ญ
I keep thinking back to my trip to Greece—the food ๐ฝ️, the culture ๐️, and the memories ๐ฅฐ. That journey opened my eyes to the transformative power of travel, but this trip feels even more meaningful.
I never imagined I’d have the chance to study abroad, and while I sometimes wish I had discovered this college earlier, I believe everything happens for a reason. But thanks to FDU for making my trips possible. Bring it on, 2025 class of 2028!
Although we will have to do homework as this is the history class, I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity.
A Journey to Remember
From Berlin’s historic streets to Prague’s fairytale charm and Warsaw’s stories of resilience, this trip promises to be unforgettable. It’s more than just a travel itinerary; it’s a chance to learn, grow, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
