The Power of Voting: Why Every Voice Matters, Even After a Felony Conviction

Image
Today, I proudly cast my vote 🗳️ for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, ready to contribute to the change I believe this country needs. But as I made my way to the polling station, I couldn’t help but think about the importance of this right and how it's unfairly stripped away from so many Americans due to felony disenfranchisement. Voting isn’t just a privilege—it’s a fundamental right. And yet, millions of people are shut out of the democratic process because of past mistakes. There’s a lot of misinformation around this topic, especially in my own family. I’ve heard relatives say they can’t vote because of a felony conviction, when in reality, in many states, that’s simply not true. Let’s break it down. What is Felony Disenfranchisement? These laws vary widely from state to state, creating a confusing patchwork of policies that can be hard to navigate. In some states, your votin...

November 1st Vibes: Geese, Coffee, and Crisp Fall Weather This morning started off with rain, but it finally cleared up, leaving behind perfect, crisp fall air. The kind of weather that just makes you want to breathe deep, grab a cozy sweater, and wander around. I started my day in writing lab, where I scored a 90 on my essay! 🎉 It’s not perfect yet—a few revisions to go—but I’ll take the win. Today’s also a special day—it’s my Aunt Dee Dee’s birthday. Happy Heavenly Birthday, Aunt Dee Dee. 🎂 Thinking of you brings back so many memories, and I just want to celebrate you. You’re missed, but you’re here with us in spirit. After class, I headed to the Student Union for breakfast. The bacon was on point—crispy and delicious—and honestly, I think I could eat it every day. 🥓 I could use a quick ride to IHOP, though—that would be the dream. For now, I’ll settle for on-campus breakfast, but there’s nothing quite like a full IHOP stack when you really want to treat yourself. 🥞 Lost in...

Countdown to Election 2024 – Your Voice Matters

Image
🗳️ The 2024 election is fast approaching, and with it comes an opportunity to make a difference in shaping the future. This year, the stakes feel higher than ever, especially when it comes to rights and freedoms that impact not only us but the next generation. 🌎✨ Sadly, Trump and the Republican Party have given hateful rhetoric and racism a platform, with rallies that fuel prejudice toward Black communities, Jewish people, Puerto Ricans, and the beautiful island of Puerto Rico 🇵🇷. During a rally at Madison Square Garden, hurtful language was used to demean Puerto Rico, calling it "a land of garbage"—when, in truth, it's those words and the people behind them that are filled with ignorance and disrespect. 💔 In this post, I’m sharing this powerful image as a reminder of why voting matters. Voting isn’t just a responsibility—it’s a way to stand up for the values and rights we hold dear. Whether it's ensuring equal rights, access to information, or protecting healt...
