Starting Over: My Journey Through College and Beyond

As the first semester winds down, with December 18th looming closer, I find myself reflecting on this whirlwind experience of starting over in college. It’s been a journey filled with awkward moments, especially when it comes to making friends. I often feel out of place among a sea of high schoolers and younger college students; the age gap can be pretty isolating. 😅

Academically, I’m relieved to say I’ve managed to pass all my classes except math, which continues to be a struggle. It’s frustrating knowing I’ll have to take another math class next semester—ugh, why? 😩 It feels like a never-ending battle, but at least I don’t have to worry about paying for college this time. Thanks to Biden for helping me get my student loans sorted out. 🙏

On a practical note, I’m ready to ditch my mom’s tote bag for a proper backpack next semester. The tote has served its purpose, but it’s seen better days and is practically falling apart. 🎒

I’m really appreciating the small class sizes at FDU; they make it much easier to get help when I need it. There are also plenty of resources on campus, so I never have to struggle alone. I’m enjoying the EOF program I’m in, and my counselor is really nice, which has been a huge support. 😊

However, I do have one frustration: they moved the Adobe Illustrator 8-week program I originally wanted to take to the Madison campus in Madison, NJ. That was a bummer, especially since it was strictly focused on Illustrator. But you know what? I’m content with my decision to go back and finish my graphic design bachelor’s degree, focusing on web design with a concentration in illustration. 🎨 It feels right, and I’m excited about the journey ahead! 🚀

It’s surreal to think I’ll be part of the Class of 2028. 😳 Sometimes I wish I had known more about my options when I graduated high school back in 2006. The guidance I got was limited, and I felt so lost at that age. 😔 But looking back, I realize I’m in a much better place now. No more college after this—I’m ready to pursue a career, not just a job. Here’s to the journey ahead! 🌟
